Brick Slips
Also known as brick tiles, brick slips offer the appeal of real brick without the weight of a full brick. They are cut from existing full-size bricks or manufactured separately. Slips cut from real bricks retain their natural colour, with their various shades, textures, and subtle variations.
They are significantly lighter than real bricks, and this makes installation easier. At Brick Wholesale, we provide original bricks for slip cuts that are safe for indoor installation and for use on suitable exterior surfaces when installed with appropriate adhesive and substrate.
We offer a wide range of bricks available in the following brick slip cuts:
- Stretcher brick slips – flat brick faces
- Corner slips – for neat edges and returns
- Header slips – for decorative detailing
- Reveal slips – commonly used for window and door openings
With this diverse collection, builders and DIY enthusiasts can create a realistic brick finish for both interior and exterior applications. The most popular and recommended thickness is 20-25mm as it provides excellent depth, strength, and visual impact.
Brick slips are typically specified for the following applications:
- Fireplaces
- Accent walls
- Kitchens and dining areas
- Bathrooms
- Living spaces
- Exterior walls or extensions (when correctly installed)
They provide the authentic look of brickwork without the heavy, structural weight.
Our brick tiles come in a wide colour palette – from classic reds and warm yellows to modern greys and contemporary shades – making them well-suited to traditional and modern properties.
FAQs
What are brick slips?
Each slip is a thin slice of brick made from natural brick. They mimic traditional brickwork but can be installed more quickly and easily.
Can brick slips be used outdoors?
Yes. Prep the surface so it can withstand outdoor conditions. Then fix the slips using the correct frost-resistant adhesive and pointing mortar.
What thickness are brick slips?
The most common thickness is 20-25mm. It is better not to cut them thinner, as they will become too fragile; however, they can be cut thicker
Can brick tiles be used in kitchens and bathrooms?
Yes. But they should be fully sealed to resist moisture and simplify cleaning.
Are brick slips real bricks?
Yes. Brick slips come from real bricks, retaining the natural colour and texture of the parent material.
Brick Slip Installation
What surface is best for installing brick slips?
Brick slips adhere best to stable, clean, properly prepared surfaces – like cement board, render, blockwork, and masonry surfaces.
What adhesive should be used for brick slips?
Buy an adhesive specifically formulated for brick slips. Choose a cement-based, polymer-modified adhesive suitable for outdoor use if working on an external project.
How to fix brick tiles
- Step: Spread adhesive evenly across the substrate.
- Step: Press the slip firmly into place.
- Step: Use spacers to keep joints evenly spaced.
How to point brick slips
After the adhesive sets, the joints should be filled with grout or brick mortar. The excess is cleaned off before it can set.
Do brick slips need sealing?
Sealing is not always required, but it is recommended in areas exposed to moisture – like kitchens and wash areas. It is also recommended on some external applications to prevent staining.
Can brick slips be cut on site?
Yes. Brick slips are trimmed on site using a wet saw or any suitable masonry cutting tools.
Can brick slips be installed on plasterboard?
This may be possible if the plasterboard is dry and properly prepared. It should also be securely fixed and not prone to moisture or heavy impact. The surface may require additional preparation to ensure correct installation.
What to Consider:
- Plasterboard must be dry, stable, and firmly fixed to the wall structure
- Brick slips should not be installed on plasterboard in external areas
- Not recommended for areas exposed to high moisture or heat, such as shower enclosures
- The combined brick slip and adhesive weight must be within the plasterboard’s load capacity
