Brick Slip Installation
What surface is best for installing brick slips?
Brick slips adhere best to stable, clean, properly prepared surfaces – like cement board, render, blockwork, and masonry surfaces.
What adhesive should be used for brick slips?
Buy an adhesive specifically formulated for brick slips. Choose a cement-based, polymer-modified adhesive suitable for outdoor use if working on an external project.
How to fix brick tiles
- Step: Spread adhesive evenly across the substrate.
- Step: Press the slip firmly into place.
- Step: Use spacers to keep joints evenly spaced.
How to point brick slips
After the adhesive sets, the joints should be filled with grout or brick mortar. The excess is cleaned off before it can set.
Do brick slips need sealing?
Sealing is not always required, but it is recommended in areas exposed to moisture – like kitchens and wash areas. It is also recommended on some external applications to prevent staining.
Can brick slips be cut on site?
Yes. Brick slips are trimmed on site using a wet saw or any suitable masonry cutting tools.
Can brick slips be installed on plasterboard?
This may be possible if the plasterboard is dry and properly prepared. It should also be securely fixed and not prone to moisture or heavy impact. The surface may require additional preparation to ensure correct installation.
What to Consider:
- Plasterboard must be dry, stable, and firmly fixed to the wall structure
- Brick slips should not be installed on plasterboard in external areas
- Not recommended for areas exposed to high moisture or heat, such as shower enclosures
- The combined brick slip and adhesive weight must be within the plasterboard’s load capacity
